Very good hardcover volumes in very good, unclipped dust jackets.
The assembly and editing of the letters took Derleth and Wandrei more than a quarter century. The first volume begins in 1911 when Lovecraft was 21, and ends with the dissolution of his brief marriage in 1924; Volume 2, 1925-1929, chronicles Lovecraft’s last year of marriage, his time in New York, the writing of some of his core works, and correspondence with other early fantasists; Volume III covers 1929-1931, when Lovecraft returned to his native Providence. This was the period of some of his most notable tales and the crystallization of major themes for his later writings. Volume 4, covers 1932-1934, a period of scholarly recluse, with travels to New Orleans and Quebec, and discussion of deep intellectual interest.
