Since November 2009, the Book
House has hosted weekly, Thursday night musical performances in the
Philosophy / Theology section in our basement. From the start, we have
strived to host artists of a diverse and interesting array of genres
and performers—jazz, folk, improvised electronic, spoken word and
indie rock groups and solo artists have shared their art in our uniquely
intimate space. Our shows are always all ages, free of cost, and
finished
early enough for audience members to pick up a book and head out into
the night.
We highly recommend checking
out a Thursday night show to see if our space is right for you. Until then, you can see some local artists taking advantage of our space in these videos below. You can find more performances on our YouTube channel.
Upcoming Music at the Book House Please check back with us in late Summer / early Fall 2011!

The Somethin' Else #4: Ill Communication 9/10/10 The fourth installment of Minneapolis' only electronic music potluck. Curated by Jon Davis of the Minneapolis Free Music Society, this evening turned into a free-style free-for-all that featured some of the cream of the Minneapolis' hip-hop crop, including Michael Larsen/Eyedea of Rhymesayers, Mike Mictlan of Doomtree, Julian Fairbanks, Yakub, Big Dylan, and Kapital John. Check the flow in this video below. Mr. Davis also posted a nice visual recap at the Somethin' Else blog!
Grain Belt / Bryce Beverlin II / Indian Burial Ground 8/19/10 Acoustic experimental music from local noise scene luminaries. Below is a video of negligible quality from Bryce Beverlin II's set. We saw a couple camera's in the audience that night--if you have footage you'd like to share, upload it to YouTube and send us a link! ourbookhouseindinkytown@gmail.com
Hawks & Oxen / Cities of the Plain 8/5/10
Lance Robotson & David Schmitz 6/3/10 "Poet, freelance street art therapist, deal broker and traveling snake oil salesman" Lance Robotson brought his shtick to the Book House basement just before hitting the road yet again. Lance nearly read his first collection of poetry,Hologrammer and Spykology in its entirety. For this rare Minnesota appearance, Mr. Robotson was accompanied by David Schmitz of local band Cities of the Plain. Video forthcoming
Bottom Jobs / Jesse Petersen 4/29/2010 We were proud to host the triumphant return of Chris Besinger and Adam Patterson BA, known around here as Bottom Jobs. This incarnation featured composer/bandleader George Cartwright on saxophone. You can catch Mr. Besinger providing vocals for Minneapolis indie rock gods STNNNG and Mr. Patterson drumming for Haunted House, Moustache Jim & the Straight Razors, and probably about 20 others. Jesse Petersen opened the night with his mind-melting guitar antics. For photos and more from this show, check out the Reviler.
Obchod Na Korze / WizardBaby 3/25/2010 An enchanting evening with two members of the notorious Soothing Almonds Collective.
