New Website coming soon!

With the changing of our immediate surroundings and technology, we must also evolve! Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming new website.
Until then- be sure to check out our blog for the latest news and events, as well as thoughts and points of interest directly from The Book House!

The 10 O'clock Scholar

In the 50s and 60s the 10 O’clock Scholar is where the music happened. The small café, which was located where Subway is today, is where the story starts. Well-known musicians such as Spider John Koerner, Dave Ray, and Bob Dylan spent the early days of their performance careers gracing the small stage of The Scholar, and the scene that flourished around this café would pass into Dinkytown history and legend.

Spider John Koerner returns to Dinkytown

On June 22nd, 2014, The Book House presents a performance of blues and folk luminary Spider John Koerner and a photography exhibit of The 10 O'clock Scholar circa 1958 as taken by Bill Savran, a U of M student at the time and owner of another campus landmark Savran's Books.

The Scholar: Postcards

We now have postcards of four of Bill's photos of The Scholar available in store! Send a little bit of Dinkytown to friends and family.

Check out Bill's Photography for a complete collection and personal account of The Scholar.

For 8.5 x 11 prints of photos in exhibition:

Previous Events

We at the Book House are proud to have hosted a wide range of literary, musical, artistic, and community events. Rather than let them disappear into the ether, we have chosen to keep a partial digital archive of our past events on this site and our YouTube channel.
